  • MULAG sets the course for the future

    New production site Appenweier

With the acquisition of a 71,000 square metre industrial area in the municipality of Appenweier, the special vehicle manufacturer MULAG located in Oppenau is laying another foundation stone for its future corporate development.

MULAG is a family business with strong regional roots in the Renchtal, which was founded in 1953. With over 280 employees, the innovative company produces roadside maintenance equipment and vehicles for the airport apron. The heart of the company beats for the Rench valley and the Ortenau district. This is why the third generation is now investing in another regional location.

The successful development of the company in recent years in connection with future growth lead to a considerable demand for space that cannot be covered at the two existing locations in the upper Rench valley. Even if all the areas of the current development plan are fully utilised, the capacities for the expansion at the Oppenau site will not be sufficient in the long term. There are also no further development opportunities at the founding location in Bad Peterstal. The regionally manufacturing company with international alignment needs further expansion areas to be able to implement the upcoming growth.

A site to the west of the city of Appenweier in the newly created Langmatt industrial park offers ideal conditions for the construction of an additional production facility. The planned Appenweier plant will be built in the industrial park nearest to MULAG available. An important argument for the choice of location was the good accessibility of the new plant for workforce, suppliers and customers with good transport connections by road, motorway, bus and train. Furthermore, it is important to MULAG to bring the existing locations to optimal use in the production network. In connection with the existing plants, the new location offers ideal conditions for the further development of the company. The expansion of production capacity will take place in responsible steps over a period of several years. The investment in this additional location will create new jobs in Appenweier and secure the existing ones in the region.

    MULAG sites

With a staff of 280 employees, MULAG Fahrzeugwerk produces its special vehicles "Made in Germany". Since its foundation, the company has been based in the Oberes Renchtal in the Black Forest in North Baden, a region in South-West Germany.

In addition to the first site in Bad Peterstal, which today houses Factory I of the company, another site was established in 1980 in Oppenau: Factory II, today's headquarters.

    The company sites

    • Factory I in Bad Peterstal-Griesbach (prefabrication and training)
    • Factory II in Oppenau (assembly and administration)

    Advantages of the sites

    • Favourable location of both factories in the South-West of the Federal Republic of Germany – with good transport to the neighbouring countries France, Switzerland and Austria.
    • Major airports such as Frankfurt and Munich and in particular Stuttgart, Baden-Baden and Strasbourg are within easy reach.
